I don’t know about you, but I am big on self-care. I practice it daily, even if it’s something small. Have you ever heard the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup”? This is 100% true. Sometimes you need to put yourself first and give yourself a much needed break. Here are 20 Self-Care Ideas Guaranteed to Make Your Day Better.

1. Take a long, warm bath each evening.

 Being able to decompress and relax your mind is essential. If I don’t take time to relax and unwind, I cannot focus on being a better me. If you want to maximize your experience, add some of your favorite bubbles or essential oils to the water! 2. Curl up in bed and read a book.

I’ll admit that I am a book nerd. Reading soothes my soul…if that is the same for you, pick a book to read and relax. I love self-help books, but my favorite books are mystery & thrillers! I am currently reading The Riley Paige mystery series by Blake Pierce. I’m on book # 7,  but the first e-book in the series is totally free on amazon, so if you like mysteries, I definitely recommend checking it out! 

3. Turn off social media for an hour each evening.

I know social media interaction is essential for those of us who run websites and social media accounts, but don’t get burned by it. Maybe take the last hour before you go to bed and truly relax your body and mind. Social media will always be there tomorrow and taking 1 hour a day away from it will not sink your business. 

I’ve heard the saying “You can’t pour from an empty cup” about a thousand times.  This is why I am such a believer in Self-Love & Self-Care. If you want to truly take care of your customers to your best ability, you need your cup to be full!

4. Exercise.

I’m not the best at exercising, but it’s something I’m working on. I always hate the idea of actually working out, but once I start, I actually feel better and I’m so glad I pushed myself to do it.

5. Have a mini spa night at home.

 I usually pick a couple nights a week to pamper myself. After I take a relaxing bath, I pull out my at home spa products and throw on some relaxing music. Here is a list of products that I always use…

6. Give yourself a makeover.

I love playing with makeup, so sometimes when I get home from work, I will give myself a little makeover. I know it’s pointless to get yourself all made up when you plan on staying home for the evening, but it makes me feel good. Do what makes you feel good about yourself. 

7. Pick a movie to watch and pop some popcorn!

Pick a movie, pop some popcorn and curl up on the couch or in bed. I don’t watch movies very often because I can’t seem to pay attention long enough, but when I do, I put my phone away and actually enjoy the movie without distractions. You will be amazed at how much better you feel after a couple hours of no internet or phone! I actually plan on watching The Book Club tomorrow since I am going to be off work for the day.

8. Listen to a podcast.

When I feel like I need a pep talk, I turn on a podcast while I’m cooking or cleaning. A couple of my favorite podcasts to listen to are the Rise podcast with Rachel Hollis and The Goal Digger podcast with Jenna Kutcher.  These podcasts are so uplifting and help spark my need to reach my goals. 

9. Take a nap.

Napping isn’t something I do during the week, but I do nap on the weekends. I work on my blog and social media mostly on the weekends, so luckily I can take a nap here and there. I know this isn’t something everyone can do, but take advantage of it if you can! I always wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the day. 

10. Buy something for yourself.

If you have the extra funds available, treat yourself to something that makes you happy. There’s no need to spend hundreds of dollars. Even buying something as simple as a new set of earrings makes me happy! 

11. Order takeout.

Give yourself a night off from cooking. Order from your favorite restaurant and sit back and truly enjoy your meal with no distractions! I have found myself using the app called BiteSquad. I’ve had good experiences with the service so far!

12. Take yourself out for ice cream.

We have some great places around where I live, but my all time favorite is TCBY ice cream! Rainbow flavored ice cream with sprinkles! You are never too old for sprinkles!

13. Journal.

When I have a lot on my mind, I journal. I feel so much lighter when I can get all of my worries out of my head. I feel less stressed after I finish. I am a big fan of journals and notebooks. I probable have way too many sitting around my house! I definitely have an obsession!

14. If you are spiritual, do a study.

I am currently reading Seamless by Angie Smith and doing the Bible study. Choose a book or study that relates to your faith. I have learned so much about myself since beginning the study.

15. Clear out clutter.

 I feel so much better when I’m not surrounded by clutter. I will occasionally purge items from my closets from junk that has accumulated over time. To me, Clutter = Anxiety. Get rid of clutter!

16. Make yourself a healthy smoothie.

 How many of you feel better when you put something healthy in your body? I know I do. Take care of your body. It’s the only one you will ever have! I have the Hamilton Beach single serve blender. The blender is super affordable and works!

17. Binge watch a series on Netflix.

There’s NOTHING wrong with doing nothing. If you are off work for the day, or if it’s a weekend, binge watch that TV series if you want! Lay in bed with your pj’s on too if it makes you happy!

18. Get a new cut or color.

Schedule an appointment with your hair stylist and try a new look. A couple years ago I decided to go red. That was such a fun experience! This year I decided I would do violet. I do my own hair color at home, but it’s not something I would recommend to everyone. If you feel comfortable coloring your hair, go for it. If not, set an appointment with a professional. 

20. Tell people NO.

I am a people pleaser. I feel like I need to help someone in order to feel good about myself and that’s not healthy. I have struggled with this my entire life. I have a caretaker personality, but a person can only handle so much. Learn to say no. It’s not easy, but if you are already stretched thin, it is OK to tell someone NO. You have to put your health, mentally and physically, before someone else.
